CMS to pay incentives for e-prescribing adoption
 The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) will provide incentive payments to eligible healthcare professionals who are e-prescribing, granting a 2 percent incentive payment in 2009 and 2010; a 1 percent incentive payment in 2011 and 2012; and a one half percent incentive payment in 2013.
GE Healthcare attributes new Wisconsin layoffs to weak U.S. market
 GE Healthcare is expected to layoff between 35 to 40 employees in Madison, Wis., which are being attributed to weakness in the U.S. healthcare market. The current round of layoffs follows a larger round that took place in late June, affecting approximately 400 employees in its Waukesha, Wis., facility.
FFDM improves national breast cancer detection rate
 TUCSON, ARIZ.—The utilization of full-field digital mammography (FFDM) technology provided higher cancer detection rates that conventional screen-film mammography in a retrospective analysis of the Irish National Breast Screening Program, which was presented on Monday at the 2008 International Workshop on Digital Mammography (IWDM).

For stage I lung tumors, there is a significant relationship between growth rates, as measured by serial CT examinations, and the initial pre-treatment metabolic activities, as measured by FDG uptake, so FDG-PET may be used as additional prognostic tool for determining management, according to a study in the August issue of Clinical Radiology.

Researchers at Rhode Island Hospital have identified two potential molecular markers that may predict outcomes for patients with stomach cancer, according to a study in the July 1 issue of Clinical Cancer Research.
