Electronic theft of data is on the rise. Robert Israel, MIS, MHCH, vice
president and CIO of John C. Lincoln Health Network in Phoenix
addressed the issues of physical and electronic theft and how to keep
equipment and patient data protected in a session Monday – “Keeping
Data Safe and Secure” – at HIMSS 2007.
Royal Philips Electronics and Health Language have launched a
technology initiative to advance system interoperability in healthcare
with the help of speech recognition. The companies aim to automate the
conversion of free text into consistent medical terminology to enable
direct storage in the electronic medical record (EMR).
AMICAS has finalized a distribution agreement with NeuroLogica, a
neuroscience-based medical imaging company. The agreement makes AMICAS'
software available in NeuroLogica's CereTom, a portable and wireless
head and neck mobile CT.
The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and GE Healthcare (GE)
have signed an eight-year, $11 million agreement that allows VIHA to
purchase 48 new ultrasound systems and collaborate with GE to research
and develop new healthcare technologies, Health Minister George Abbott
announced today.

industry for about 10 years and has 600 employees dedicated to the
industry. The healthcare industry is too big and complex not to have
dedicated staff, he said.
