Connect Imaging, a developer of customizable PACS, released a new version of its Mammo ViewBox software to support a super high-resolution mammography display from Totoku Electric of Japan, during the 2008 Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) meeting at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle.

Philip J. Manly, CEO of Connect Imaging, told Health Imaging News that the company’s mammography workstation software is the first to support the Independent Sub-pixels Drive (ISD) technology of the “super high resolution” Totoku MS51i2 digital mammography display, which is designed to accept higher resolution output from modality devices.

“Totoku developed a novel way to triple the resolution of its 5 MP monitor, but taking advantage of the higher resolution required some software changes,” Manly said. “Connect Imaging made these necessary modifications a priority and we now can offer this workstation software to all users of digital mammography. Although it works most efficiently when combined with other mammography modules in the Connect Imaging PACS, our Mammo ViewBox workstation software is compatible with any DICOM archive.”

Manly said that with the Mammo ViewBox, studies are hung automatically without user intervention, no matter how many films they contain, and are initially displayed in screening or diagnostic layout, depending on user preferences. Additional features include:
  • A user interface, designed by a cognitive scientist, which lets user can perform normal image manipulation without taking his/her eyes off the image.
  • The worklist on the third panel shows information and status of all studies on local workstation. Different prior studies can be loaded for comparison with current study with a mouse click.
  • Studies are preloaded into available memory to minimize display time when changing studies.
  • Studies can be printed to any DICOM printer with all ACR-recommended labels.
  • Mammo ViewBox automatically switches to ViewBox for viewing other modalities.
