HIMSS: MobileMD, CareSpark to demonstrate HIE interoperability
CareSpark, a nonprofit regional health information exchange (HIE), and MobileMD, (Booth 6746) an HIE service developer, are demonstrating Direct Project interoperability at the upcoming 2011 Annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition, Feb. 21 to 24, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The demonstration will be an actual implementation of the recently developed Direct Project technical constructs that enable a secure, standards-based way for providers to send encrypted health information to trusted recipients over the internet. CareSpark will demonstrate connectivity between CareSpark’s connected providers and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

The demonstration will showcase mammography referrals and the exchange of orders and results that cross between the public and private sectors of healthcare, with the flow occurring between the VA and providers connected to CareSpark.

Mountain States Health Alliance, based in Johnson City, Tenn., is the planned first CareSpark participant to utilize this Direct Project exchange of real patient data with VA’s James H. Quillen Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.

The demonstration is available for viewing within the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase in booth 7343.
