Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE)

This year's Interoperability Showcase is demonstrating the benefits of interoperable patient data exchange by allowing attendees to see cutting-edge technology and standards that create an interactive environment up close.

Structured as a HIMSS Regional Health Information Organization, attendees can see interoperability in action in existing EHR products, including cross-enterprise document exchange of laboratory results, radiology images, medical summaries and cardiology reports. The more than 40 participating vendors and healthcare organizations will integrate their EHR products and systems, equipped with the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) profiles, to ensure the interoperable exchange of information across healthcare settings.

Attendees will be able to create and manage their own virtual health record and access it across multiple healthcare settings within the Showcase. Clinical scenarios will be enabled by the standards-based Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) framework, demonstrating how different companies incorporate interoperability into their products.

Last year's Showcase drew more than 2,300 participants and the interest of David Brailer, MD, PhD, national coordinator of health information technology. This year's leadership participants include BlueWare, Cerner, GE Healthcare (which now includes IDX), IBM, Initiate, InterSystems, Misys, Quovadx, and Siemens. The Interoperability Showcase will be held at Booth #7319 in the Sails Pavilion.
