AMDIS names 2011 award winners
Two facilities and six individuals have won awards for excellence and outstanding achievement in applied medical informatics from the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS). The awards honor individuals and/or organizations who have successfully applied information systems and computer technology into the practice of medicine.

The 2011 individual winners are:
  • Bill Beighe, CIO, Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange and CIO, Physicians Medical Group of Santa Cruz, Calif.
  • Larry Holder, MD, CMIO, Medical Director of Hospitalist Services, Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Ill.
  • Cmdr. Peter J. Park, MD, Deputy Director for Clinical Informatics, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Naval Medical Center, San Diego
  • Brian Patty, MD, CMIO, HealthEast Care System, St. Paul, Minn.
  • Carol Steltenkamp, MD, CMIO, University of Kentucky Health Care, Lexington, Ky.
  • David Kaelber, MD, CMIO, MetroHealth System, Cleveland

Award-winning facilities were Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle; and MetroHealth System, Cleveland.

AMDIS, a nonprofit organization representing more than 2,000 physician healthcare IT leaders, is dedicated to advancing the field of applied medical informatics and improving the practice of medicine through the direct physician use of IT. Winners will be honored at the 20th annual Physician Computer Connection Symposium, July 12 to 15, in Ojai, Calif.
