Aspect, Mediso collaborate on integrated PET/MRI system
Aspect Magnet Technologies and Mediso Medical Imaging Systems have begun a collaboration to develop a multimodality system that combines the benefits of PET and MRI for use behind the animal barrier.

The two modalities will be integrated into one system, allowing preclinical researchers to capture PET and MRI images without repositioning the animal subject, said the Netanya, Israel-based Aspect.

The new system will be enabled by both Aspect’s proprietary permanent magnet technology that allows the company’s freestanding, compact MRI machine to be sited in any location without conventional external shielding and by Mediso’s submillimeter-resolution SPECT and PET imaging technology, added the companies.

The companies expect the first systems to be available in 2011. The new product will be sold directly by Budapest, Hungary-based Mediso and through Mediso distributors.

Aspect and Mediso are presenting their products at World Molecular Imaging Congress (WMIC) in Kyoto, Japan.
