GE unveils CT Discovery upgrade as a work in progress
GE Healthcare has introduced the Discovery CT750 HD FREEdom Edition, which is pending FDA approval, at this year’s American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual scientific session in Chicago.

Based on  FREEdom technologies (Fast Registered Energies & ECG), this system includes: Motion FREEdom, with motion correction via SnapShot Freeze; Calcium FREEdom, with coronary visualization using Gemstone Spectral Imaging (GSI) Cardiac; and Horizon FREE opportunities, with plaque material composition perfusion calculations.

SnapShot Freeze, one of FREEdom’s technologies, can help reduce coronary motion by detecting vessel motion and velocity, according to GE.

The Discovery CT750 HD FREEdom Edition also is the first cardiac spectral imaging scanner that merges GE’s SnapShot Pulse technology with GSI’s kV switching allowing for a registered spectral CT dataset that is then decomposed into material density images and synthesized into monochromatic energies. Also, GSI Cardiac enables investigations of CT coronary plaque assessment and quantitative myocardial perfusion.
