Carestream Molecular Imaging, a division of Carestream Health, has been granted Patent No. 7,734,325 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the technology titled “apparatus and method for multi-modal imaging,” related to its in vivo multispectral FX small animal imaging system.

Using the imaging system, one or more immobilized small animals can be imaged in several imaging modes without moving the animal. A movable phosphor screen allows users to image the test animal using multiple modalities with a single imager: x-ray and radioisotopic with the screen—fluorescence and luminescence without—all without moving the test animal.

This technology enables the generation of a single image comprising images from up to four modalities, said the Woodbridge, Conn.-based Carestream Molecular Imaging.
