U.K. hospital installs molecular CT
Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom is using the hybrid Biograph mCT from Siemens Healthcare in the management of cancer patients.

The scanner combines CT technology with HDPET and offers specific, detailed information about a patient’s disease state, including cell metabolism within tumors, said the company. Due to its dual functionality, the system can also be used as a combined molecular CT or as a standalone, CT scanner if required.

According to Siemens, the Biograph mCT offers a uniform 2mm image resolution, has a large bore and short tunnel for a more comfortable scanning experience for the patient and can achieve whole-body PET scans.

The trust is also planning to develop brain and pediatric imaging services and will start using the Biograph mCT for mycordial perfusion imaging from May.
