The man from Plains prepared for the worst

When an MRI turned up cancer in four parts of his brain a year ago, Jimmy Carter thought his end was near.

“I didn't think I was going to live but two or three weeks because they had already removed part of my liver,” the former U.S. president said at a press conference Aug. 22.
