The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has issued its third video challenge to promote awareness of patient engagement and individuals' health records. What’s In Your Record? is the newest challenge from the ONC through Challenge.gov.

Videos my be submitted for judging and prizes through Aug. 23. Six prizes, including a $3,000 first place prize, will be awarded. Winners will be announced on Sept. 10. The challenge is looking for personal experiences of obtaining personal health records. Videos should be up to two minutes in length and compel the watcher to engage in their own healthcare and start knowing what is in their health records.

This is the third video contest in a series of 2012 health IT video challenges from the ONC that gather public stories on how they are benefiting from health IT. The ONC is using the challenges and the videos to publicize and encourage individuals to engage and play a more active role in their health.

In September 2009, President Barack Obama outlined and initiated his Strategy for American Innovation. He called on agencies to “increase their ability to promote innovation by using tools such as prizes and challenges to solve tough problems.” Challenge.gov was created as a platform for agencies to list, track and promote their challenges.
