Philips notches Pinnacle3 SmartEnterprise orders
Radiological Associates of Sacramento (RAS) and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute have installed Philips Healthcare's Pinnacle3 SmartEnterprise, a radiation treatment planning system.

Philips said its SmartEnterprise is a new hardware system with scalability that allows up to 16 Pinnacle3 simultaneous users per computing module.

For improved radiation treatment planning, the system offers:
  • Open architecture: Leveraging thin-client technology, a centralized database eliminates the need to transfer plan files and offers a multicenter solution.
  • Advanced treatment planning: An image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) feature handles 4D image sets.
  • Streamlined image import: One-click imports of multiple image sets and expanded DICOM export functionality.

The Sacramento, Calif.-based RAS now has access to radiation treatment planning data from anywhere in their network of seven radiation oncology centers. A common database offers ease of use to physicists who can benefit from the systems' speed and now can make upgrades without having to access multiple servers, according to Philips.

As the Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt continues to expand and increase radiation treatment capacity, the system has provided flexibility and efficiency in treatment planning to the growing organization, Philips said.
