San Jose rad oncologist accused of stealing research funds

A former radiation oncologist with Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, Calif., has been charged with embezzling nearly $50,000 from the hospital.

Tri Minh Do, MD, is alleged to have stolen $46,000 in checks from the American College of Radiology that were meant to reimburse the hospital for prostate cancer research, according to NBC News.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office has accused Do of cashing the checks using an account he had access to and keeping the money for himself and family members.

Do left Santa Clara Valley Medical Center early this year and is now practicing in Fresno, Calif., but will be in a San Jose court for arraignment on Sept. 13, according to NBC News. He could face up to four years in state prison if convicted.
