ACR Offers Resident and Fellow Scholarships to Attend RLI Annual Event

Reston, VA (May 30, 2013) — Residents and fellows can now apply for one of up to five  scholarships to attend the American College of Radiology (ACR) Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) Annual Event, July 25–28, 2013, at the Kellogg School of Management on  Northwestern University’s Evanston, IL, campus. This all-new event will arm participants with the tools and strategies needed to succeed in today's changing health care environment. Completed scholarship applications, which include brief essays and a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s program director, must be received by June 25, 2013.

The RLI selected leading radiology professionals to collaborate with the renowned Kellogg business school faculty to produce an educational event focused on implementation of best business practices in a radiology environment. The four-day program can help radiology professionals of all career stages to:

  • Identify key operational metrics and processes for organizational effectiveness and utilize tools to embed the “value” concept into practice management
  • Explore effective negotiation techniques and learn strategies to maximize the potential for a deal
  • Build and manage more effective teams to improve  quality and profitability of care
  • Manage conflict, deal with uncertainty, create opportunities for improvement and understand how team dynamics will likely shape the role of radiology in new payment systems

“The mission of the RLI is to prepare leaders who will shape the future of radiology, ensure quality, elevate service and deliver extraordinary patient care. We realize that, for many residents and fellows, funding is at a premium. The ACR wants to help them gain access to this critical content, navigate the transition from volume to value-based care,  advance their careers, and become better providers and better leaders,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, FACR, medical director of the RLI and chair of the ACR Commission on Leadership and Practice Development.

Funding for the RLI Scholarship Program will come from the ACR Foundation RLI Fund. Money used for the RLI Scholarship Program will be provided directly to the resident’s or fellow’s educational program to pay full registration fees and travel costs associated with attending the 2013 RLI Annual Event.

The 2013 RLI Annual Event Scholarship application, scholarship policies, requirements and selection criteria, are available at http://www.radiologyleaders.org/annual-event-scholarship.html

Residents and fellows may soon apply for a limited number of scholarships to attend other RLI programs. Opportunities for donors to provide funding for named scholarships and endowments will be made available to individuals, chapters and practices through the ACR Foundation.
