Alsip named CMIO at UAB Health System
Jorge Alsip, MD, was recently appointed the first CMIO at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Health System.

Alsip, who will begin in the CMIO role in October, will work with the medical staff to develop the clinical strategy for the continued application of health IT at UAB. He will ensure that technology decisions are aligned with the health system’s patient care and quality initiatives. Alsip will also hold a faculty position in the department of emergency medicine.

A graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Alsip completed his residency training at UAB Hospital and the University of South Carolina. As a board certified emergency physician, he returned to Mobile, Ala., and practiced at Springhill Medical Center for 20 years. Alsip has served as president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, chair of the Alabama Department of Public Health and chair of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners.
