TUSTIN, Calif.— Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc., in partnership with Quality Electrodynamics (QED), installed a Vantage GalanTM 3T MR system at the new QED Research Center in Mayfield Village, Ohio. The system, QED’s first research resource, is being utilized to image volunteers in efforts to develop new MR technologies, such as the development and testing of radio frequency coils. The system will also be made available to local university-based researchers and other commercial organizations to test the compatibility and performance of their products in the MR environment.
“Canon Medical Systems’ state-of-the-art MRI technology marks the first phase of the QED Research Center’s community collaborative innovation platform exploration,” said Dr. John Patrick, president, QED Research Center. “As a strategic partner of Canon Medical Systems, we hope to provide the most cutting-edge MRI technology while continuing to grow our strong pipeline of innovations, which will be accelerated by the installation of a new Galan 3T system.”
“This partnership with the QED Research Center will help provide Canon Medical Systems with significant access to research that will inform our own development of new clinical applications so that customers can deliver better care to their patients,” said Dominic Smith, senior director, CT, PET/CT, and MR Business Units, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc. “We are thrilled that QED Research Center will benefit from the advanced technology available on the Galan 3T MR system and we are eager to work with them to expand the clinical use of MR.”
The newly installed system was part of the QED Research Center’s grand opening, celebrated on November 8, 2017 and marks the beginning of a new era in collaborative medical device research, including, but extending beyond, medical imaging for the scientific and clinical community.
