MeVis Medical Solutions has acquired all rights to CT CAD technology from R2 Technology, a subsidiary of Hologic.

The acquisition includes the Santa Clara, Calif.-based R2’s products, technology and intellectual property for computer-aided detection (CAD), advanced visualization and multi-detector CT (MDCT) exams.

MeVis is a provider of disease-oriented software solutions for image-based medicine. The company said its addition of the R2 CT CAD products and technology provides the foundation for expanding its portfolio of workflow-optimized solutions for pulmonary imaging and oncology.

The FDA has approved ImageChecker CT, a CT lung CAD system, for the use of CAD in improving the detection of actionable lung nodules during review of MDCT chest exams.

MeVis said it will transfer R2’s CT business to its new Milwaukee-area facility and distribute the associated products under a brand name as the MeVis Visia CT lung system.
