Swedish university ditches cadavers in favor of Sectra visualization tables

Örebro University in Sweden has installed three visualization tables from Sectra for use in several of the university’s medicine programs and to replace or complement the dissection of bodies.

The Sectra Visualization Table is a large, multi-touch medical display with software that facilitates interaction with 3D images of the body created using CT or MRI. Students can zoom, rotate or cut into visualized bodies without actually destroying the subject.

The university has decided not to use bodies for dissection in anatomy classes and will use the visualization tables, along with the organization’s own medical images, to provide students with an overview of the anatomy, according to Sectra.
