64-slice Somatom unlocks Nefertitis secrets
Multimodality developer Siemens Medical Solutions revealed that its 64-slice Somatom Sensation CT was used to scan a bust of Nefertiti in order to reveal a second structure hidden inside the artifact. An original CT scan conducted on the artwork 15 years ago uncovered the second structure, but the image resolution was too poor to be conclusive, according to the Malvern, Penn.-based Siemens.

The scan was conducted at the Imaging Science Institute in Berlin, a partnership between Siemens and the University Hospital Charite in Berlin. The results of the research, Nefertiti and the Lost Dynasty, debuted on the National Geographic Channel last night.
