AAPM CT protocols tackle dose, CT terminology
The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) has released scan protocols for frequently performed CT examinations.

The protocols summarize the basic requirements of CT exams and provide examples of scan and reconstruction parameters. They were developed by the AAPM Working Group on Standardization of CT Nomenclature and Protocols.

A PowerPoint presentation that includes the protocols can be found here. The presentation also includes information about factors that affect CT radiation dose, illustrations of CT dose index parameters and CT dose protocol concepts.

AAPM’s working group also developed a CT terminology lexicon that provides users with information to translate important CT acquisition and reconstruction terms between different manufacturers’ systems.
