Agfa's HealthCare Business Group's has launched a new computed radiography (CR) system called the DX-S. The DX-S has been designed to bring a full range of imaging exams directly to the point of care in general radiography, paediatric and emergency rooms, the company said.

The DirectriX needle-based detector technology and Scanhead line-to-line CR simulation and light collection technology are both key components of the system. The combination of these two technologies into one fully integrated, compact CR system is designed to offer the following:

• Increased image quality and/or potential for X-ray patient dose reduction;
• High speed imaging;
• Flexibility through DX-S's compact mobile design which is adapted specifically for decentralized and in-room use;
• Portability; and
• By locating DX-S in examination rooms radiology personnel are able to remain with patients during image capture and processing.

The DX-S is expected to be available before year's end.
