Agfa to proceed with Western Australia PACS project
Agfa Healthcare Australia is set to embark on a $17 million contract for its PACS and RIS system to support image management in a number of tertiary hospitals in Western Australia (WA).

The project, known as WA PACS, will furnish the Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Shenton Park Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital with Agfa's Impax PACS and computed radiography (CR) systems with server consolidation in two datacenters ensuring disaster fail-over between two sites.

The facilities will use one common PACS database and storage subsystem, rather than operating as separate site-linked entities. Completion of the project is anticipated for the middle of 2004.

Agfa's Quadrat RIS system also will be implemented at the hospitals and an additional six more. All hospitals will be connected to the datacenters via a dedicated gigabit wide-area network.
