Agfa scores large RIS/PACS deal
Agfa Healthcare has been awarded a contract from Capital Health in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to implement its RIS, PACS and speech recognition systems across its 13-hospital health region.

The fully integrated RIS/PACS/speech system will enhance patient and exam workflow and permit users to access records and images system wide through netCARE, Capital Health's Electronic Health Record application. Capital Health performs more than 750,000 exams a year.

The technology will allow for the full integration of cardiology and radiology images and information, Agfa said.

In addition, Agfa and Capital Health will form a risk-sharing public-private relationship to improve the delivery of diagnostic imaging services, Agfa said.

According to Michael Green, VP, HealthCare, for Agfa in Canada, the public-private relationship will help to guarantee the "clinical, operational, financial and technical success of the system."
