AHA endorses price transparency legislation
The AHA (American Hospital Association) this week voiced its support for the Health Care Price Transparency Promotion Act (H.R. 1666), a bill that aims to boost state efforts to provide consumers with more hospital pricing data and require insurers to disclose estimated out-of-pocket costs. The bill would call on the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality to evaluates which types of price information consumers want, AHA Executive Vice President Rick Pollack said in a letter of support to bill sponsors Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and Gene Green (D-Texas). “Sharing meaningful information with consumers about the price of their hospital care will greatly enhance the market-based approach to health care,” Pollack said. “We appreciate your leadership, and we look forward to working with you to advance this legislation.”
