BridgeHead announces joint PACS storage initiative with AMICAS
BridgeHead Software announced this week at HIMSS 2006 a technology relationship with PACS vendor AMICAS Inc. The aim of the partnership is to allow users of the AMICAS Vision Series PACS archiving system to incorporate BridgeHead’s Integrated Storage Management software platform (HT ISM) into their PACS environment for automated data backup, restore and compliancy archiving required by HIPAA, the companies said in a release.

AMICAS customers that currently use BridgeHead technology have enterprise backup, archiving and business continuance strategies and have invested significantly in the storage, network, and media infrastructure managed by BridgeHead to meet increasingly rigorous data protection and availability standards. As a result of this relationship, AMICAS expects its PACS customers to soon have the ability to fully use their BridgeHead storage management environment to incorporate both the backup and archiving requirements of the AMICAS Vision Series PACS system without having to acquire separate infrastructure.

The companies believe that this relationship should be particularly meaningful for healthcare organizations that use MEDITECH as their Healthcare Information System (HIS). BridgeHead has jointly developed with MEDITECH a vendor-certified system for backup and disaster recovery replication of MEDITECH data that is currently in widespread use at hundreds of MEDITECH facilities.  AMICAS also focuses on the needs of MEDITECH users with multiple points of integration between its technology and the MEDITECH system.  Allowing users to integrate MEDITECH and AMICAS storage management procedures adds another layer of value to the partnership, the companies said.
