CCHIT takes a look at interoperability, internally developed EHRs
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) announced that is seeking information to develop a strategy to test interoperability criteria for certification. CCHIT is asking for input from organizations and vendors. In 2006, functionality testing for ambulatory (office-based) EHR certification has been performed via observed juror demonstration. In 2007, certification will expand to include ambulatory interoperability capabilities and selected components of inpatient EHRs, including interoperability. Responses for information are due Oct. 13.CCHIT also announced plans to roll out a new certification program for internally developed ambulatory EHR systems beginning Nov. 1. The modified certification process is for EHR systems that were developed for internal use by organizations such as physician practices or health system physician networks. More information will be available in early October, CCHIT said.
