CCHIT taps Mitre to create EHR testing software
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) has partnered with Mitre Corporation to build testing software to validate that EHR system and health information networks meet its criteria for interoperability.

Mitre of McLean, Va., is a private, not-for-profit research and development firm.

CCHIT and Mitre refer to their agreement as a “collaborative relationship,” and the project is being funded by both organizations. The agreement falls under an open-source license, meaning it will be free and publicly available to software vendors.

CCHIT will use the software for its inspection of the compliance of an EHR system or network.

The tool is expected to be ready in time for CCHIT’s pilot testing and certification criteria launch in 2008.
