Cerner scores double-digit gains in first-quarter revenues and earnings
Cerner Corp. logged $216.4 million in new bookings in the first quarter, helping to power the company to greater revenues and earnings in the three-month period.

Revenues increased 10 percent to $218.7 million, compared with $198.2 million in the first quarter of 2003. Net income rose to $14.1 million, compared with $5.6 million in the year-ago quarter. Cerner's sale of Zynx Health increased net income in the first quarter of 2004 by $1.8 million.

The company also reported total revenue backlog of $1.32 billion, up 29 percent from the year-ago quarter. The total consists of $1 billion of contract backlog and $318.5 million of support and maintenance backlog.

Cerner also noted that it expects revenues for 2004 to be at the "upper end" of its projection of $920 million to $940 million.
