CIVCO broadens rad onc portfolio with Sinmed acquisition
CIVCO Medical Solutions yesterday announced it has acquired Sinmed BV of The Netherlands, a provider immobilization and positioning products for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment. Sinmed complements CIVCO’s radiation oncology product line which was acquired with the purchase of MEDTEC, Inc. in November 2005, CIVCO said.

Sinmed joins CIVCO in offering a full line of medical products, software and services for use in diagnostic procedures, minimally invasive surgery and cancer therapy. Sinmed develops, manufactures and markets a globally recognized line of patient positioning devices, including: the Mastercouch carbon fiber couchtop, Posifix head and neck fixation systems, Posicast thermoplastics and Combifix lower abdomen positioning systems. The company’s products are sold globally in more than 60 countries through a dedicated network of distributors.

CIVCO plans to capitalize on synergies and leverage strengths while building upon its established product brands. The company will continue to offer both the Sinmed and MEDTEC product brands, making the guarantee that products, services and support will continue for both product lines.

The radiation oncology business segment will be lead by key executives, including: Tom Doughty as general manager-Radiation Oncology, Patrick Dammekens as director of Asian-Pacific Sales, Pieter-Jan Wegman as managing director of European Sales and Leo de Mooy as managing director of Product Development. Wegman and de Mooy previously were co-owners of Sinmed.

“The addition of Sinmed enhances CIVCO’s distribution network and gives us a more global presence,” said Charles Klasson, President of CIVCO. “Pieter-Jan and Leo will be instrumental in streamlining our product line to include innovative products and services to enhance the clinical connection between equipment and the quality of patient care.”
