CompTIA unveils new certification
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has unveiled a new certification, CompTIA Convergence+, designed to help IT and communications professionals expand their skills beyond data-only or voice-only capabilities so they are qualified to support and maintain the new methods of communicating made possible by convergence technology. Convergence technologies include voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony, unified messaging and web conferencing.

The credential validates knowledge and skill in the area of communications technologies where data, voice, video, and broadcast multimedia technologies are combined in a single IP-based delivery system.

“Organizations believe that convergence solutions will provide them with enormous flexibility to manage and administer voice and data networks together; to boost efficiency; and to contain costs,” said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. “To turn these beliefs into reality, our industry must develop a workforce capable of helping customers maximize the benefits and opportunities made possible by the delivery of data, voice and multimedia over the same network.
