CSC launches global healthcare sector; names exec
Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has launched a new dedicated vertical business unit to serve healthcare providers, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers and allied industries globally.

The Healthcare Sector will leverage core intellectual property to help clients innovate new or enhanced clinical and business processes, including processes related to supply chain management, revenue cycle management, claims processing, document management and clinical trial management, according to the El Segundo, Calif.-based company.

The group said it is bolstered by the 2007 acquisitions of: First Consulting Group, an IT services organization dedicated to healthcare and providing increased offshore delivery scale, and Covansys, which strengthened CSC’s offshore domain expertise while creating an additional market channel for industry, consulting and outsourcing solutions.

Additionally, CSC has named Deward Watts, as president of the Healthcare Sector. Watts has been with CSC for 12 years, and previously led the Americas Healthcare practice as vice president and managing partner. Watts will report to Chairman, President and CEO Michael W. Laphen, according to CSC.
