E2v exhibits Hi-Art system with compact modulator
e2v technologies showcased TomoTherapy Inc.'s Hi-Art radiotherapy system bundled with its compact modulator at the 46th annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) this week in Atlanta.

The radiofrequency (RF) system consists of a three-phase power supply, a control system, a magnetron with electromagnet, a microwave launching system and e2v's compact modulator. The modulator is a high voltage, direct switching unit specially designed for linear accelerator machine use, said e2v.

The combined technology provides a high-energy, pulsed microwave source required to drive a linac and provide life-saving x-rays used in the imaging and treatment of tumors.

According to e2v, approximately 40 complete RF systems have been delivered to TomoTherapy to date, 13 of which are in clinical use.
