Elekta, a radiation therapy and non-invasive neurosurgery device manufacturer, will showcase new cancer care product at the 49th annual meeting of The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), to be held next week in Los Angeles.

Elekta will unveil its volumetric intensity modulated arc therapy (VMAT), a new technology for clinical intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). VMAT is currently a work in progress and not commercially available, according to the company.

The Stockholm, Sweden-based Elekta said that VMAT more precisely targets tumors and protects surrounding healthy tissue, while reducing radiation therapy treatment times.
