FDA clears CT for foot, ankle scanner
The FDA has approved CurveBeam 510(k) approval for pedCAT, an in-office 3D foot and ankle scanner.

pedCAT uses 3D cone beam CT technology to produce images of the foot and ankle region under true physiological weight-bearing conditions, the Warrington, Pa.-based company said.

The patient’s foot and ankle are scanned in a weight-bearing position for a view of physiological weight bearing effects. pedCAT delivers 3D volumetric data for diagnosis, evaluation and treatment planning including:
  • Preoperative planning;
  • Diagnosis, confirmation or ruling out fractures;
  • Evaluating subluxations and dislocations;
  • Evaluating arthritic joints; and
  • Early detection of osteomyelitis.
