FDA grants clearance for Varians new collinator
Varian Medical Systems has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. FDA for a new high-definition multi-leaf collimator (MLC), a beam shaping device for radiosurgery.
The Palto Alto, Calif.-based Varian said its new HD120 MLC multi-leaf collimator enables clinicians to deliver radiosurgical treatments, including intensity-modulated radiosurgery. The device will be included with the new Novalis Tx radiosurgery system, which presents a non-invasive alternative to conventional surgery, said Varian.
