FDA holds meeting of healthcare IT
The U.S. FDA will host a public meeting on Friday, Oct. 19 to obtain feedback on the healthcare industry’s IT strategic planning process.

The FDA’s new IT strategies could change the research and reporting protocols for healthcare organizations, which conduct activities that fall under the agency’s regulatory scope.

The FDA said that as it moves toward an automated standards-based electronic review environment, it is seeking public input on the type of information to be included in future IT plans that will provide our external stakeholders the information needed to be in alignment with the program direction and goals.

The agency is interested in these specific areas: the content of IT plans most useful to external organizations; data standards and guidance that best support IT capabilities and implementation; and how IT can best be applied to support public health needs.
