Fujitsu previews Webcam device, wireless capabilities
At HIMSS07, Fujitsu talked up the upcoming release of a new Webcam barcode scanner it has planned for release during the first half of this year. The auto-focus, USB device can capture video images like any other such camera, but will also have the unique capability of reading barcodes as a cost effective alternative to more conventional barcode readers.

One of the key benefits of the system, Fujitsu said, will be to provide a method for nurses doing rounds to scan and verify medication doses. Also, the device will give point-of-care providers a way to capture visual evidence of physical problems so that a physician in a remote location can offer treatment guidance.

In other news, Fujitsu plans to unveil wireless (WAN) capabilities for several of its products also by mid-year.
