Clinical information technology systems form the backbone of healthcare IT. Partnered with admission and billing systems, and extended throughout the healthcare continuum with an electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR), clinical systems provide healthcare professionals the IT tools they need to deliver safe and effective quality patient care. Here is a preview of a few of the leading-edge systems that await this year’s HIMSS attendees.


Agfa Healthcare (Booth 7763) is highlighting Orbis clinical information system (CIS), which includes Orbis Live and Orbis Care. Orbis Live serves as a foundation for EMRs, and encompasses administrative processes. Orbis Care offers a complete clinician charting and documentation module.

Agfa offers its Impax PACS portfolio with new clinical applications and server-based 3D tools. Agfa’s Impax suites include Impax Enterprise Suite and Impax Hospital Suite.


Amicas (Booth 6951) is showcasing the following new and updated products: Vision Series PACS 5.5 introduces major enhancements to its RealTime Worklist and extended Vision Watch reporting capabilities; RadStream: automation and documentation of critical radiology results communication; Vision Series RIS now includes advanced work queues to optimize order entry and scheduling workflows; Vision Series Financials uses “CashFinder” technology to reveal uncollected revenue; and Vision Series Document Management.


Carestream Health (Booth 4248) is demonstrating its new digital dashboard for Kodak Carestream RIS which proactively alerts administrators about RIS/PACS problems.

Kodak Carestream PACS now includes optional integrated applications to authorized users at both remote and on-site locations and advanced visualization.


CoActiv Medical Business Solutions (Booth 7787) is spotlighting its new Exam-RIS, which includes advanced features supporting electronic workflow. In addition, CoActiv continues to offer complete HL7 and other integration services to current and new clients for additional RIS/HIS/dictation vendors. The developer also is debuting automatic color coding in its Exam-PACS.


Compressus (Booth 6773) is announcing several MEDxConnect product line expansions, including the introduction of Study Routing Management technology. The company also is showcasing a new integration of the MEDxConnect System to Philips Healthcare’s iSite PACS. The MEDxConnect Demographic xInterface allows a close-coupled interface to iSite.


Eclipsys (Booth 2063) is showcasing its Sunrise Enterprise for clinical and financial applications. The underlying Eclipsys XA architecture and ObjectsPlus/XA application development technology integrate financial, clinical and access solutions.


Emageon (Booth 4451) is displaying its Enterprise medical information technology systems, featuring RadSuite, HeartSuite, HeartSuite Express for advanced visualization and infrastructure tools. The company recently partnered with Dell on a turnkey solution to help facilities producing 80,000 studies annually or less to effectively start using PACS.


Fujifilm Medical Systems USA (Booth 3300) is showcasing its Synapse version 3.2.1 PACS, which features a new graphical user interface for productivity improvements.

Fujifilm is demonstrating future extensions to its distributed 3D software, including PET/CT fusion, and works-in-progress advancements to existing diagnostic MIP/MPR capabilities for Synapse. The firm is showcasing the integration of its Synapse PACS with Empiric Systems’ web-based Encompass.NET RIS and billing product, and the cardiology capabilities of its Synapse ProSolv CardioVascular application.


GE Healthcare (Booth 737) is featuring the capabilities of its Centricity line, including: Centricity Enterprise Remote Services; Centricity Laboratory; Centricity Perinatal; Centricity Perioperative Information System; Centricity Pharmacy; and Centricity Radiology-IW (RIS-IC/IntegradWeb PACS).

The company also is featuring Centricity Radiology RIS/PACS and Centricity Rad/Card for a common infrastructure for all radiology and cardiology needs. GE also is introducing Centricity OneView, which enables comprehensive clinical information integrated with global worklists and common workflows.


McKesson (Booth 3035) is showcasing the company’s enterprise image management and workflow solutions in radiology and cardiology, including Horizon Medical Information PACS solution and Horizon Cardiology CVIS.


NeoTool (Booth 3663) is unveiling high-availability functionality for its NeoIntegrate healthcare interface engine. Features of NeoIntegrate Assured Availability (A2) include: a communications platform to simplify deployment; a proactive alert sent when primary server fails capability that initiates failover within seconds; and proactive monitoring of both primary and backup servers.


Neurostar Solutions (Booth 4108) is showcasing version 7 of its Virtual Radiology Network (VRN)—a service-oriented architecture (SOA) for online management of clinical images. VRN 7 features cross-enterprise data access; a grid-like architecture that makes patient records available independent of the location of the data or the user; and Neurostar’s PACS insurance program.


NovaRad (Booth 3611) is featuring its NovaCentral support “command center” for real-time remote monitoring and referring physician features. NovaPACS offers split/merge study options, multiple site codes, audio alerts, enhanced integration between the PACS and dictation software, and increased menu customization options. NovaRIS now includes inpatient scheduling, a “quick order” wizard, and additional menu customization options.


Philips Healthcare (Booth 6443) is demonstrating iSite PACS and its XIRIS RIS. iSite PACS features interactive, real-time volumetric reading tools, and XIRIS, a web-based, scalable RIS.

Philips’ newly enhanced Xcelera Cardiology Information Solution presents one access point to multimodality information, and provides long-term storage and enterprise distribution of multimedia studies. Other cardiovascular highlights include the new Xper Information Management cardiovascular solution.

Philips Healthcare is highlighting its recent acquisitions, Emergin and VISICU as well as the following: IntelliVue Clinical Information Portfolio for critical-care environments; CompuRecord Anesthesia Information System; and OB TraceVue, a patient-focused obstetrical information system.


ScImage (Booth 6971) is spotlighting a web-based workflow management foundation that fuses DICOM, HL7 and web services into a single codebase for its PicomEnterprise PACS.

The newest version of PicomEnterprise features dynamic workflow allocation and the ability for administrators to track and manage daily workflow, order backlogs and reporting turnaround.


Siemens Medical Solutions (Booth 3763) is featuring its Soarian Clinicals, with a workflow engine that simultaneously pushes multiple tasks to multiple people. Soarian Critical Care proactively interfaces medical devices and information.

Soarian Quality Measures, powered by the Siemens REMIND (Reliable Extraction and Meaningful Inference from Non-structured Data) platform, replaces manual chart reviews with automated chart abstraction of quality measures. Soarian Device Connect enables electronic collection of information from GE Healthcare’s DINAMAP vital signs monitors.

Siemens is presenting syngo Suite for RIS/PACS in radiology and cardiology, comprised of syngo Workflow, syngo Imaging and syngo Dynamics.

Siemens also is displaying the following: Invision Clinicals with integration with the Siemens Rules Engine; MedSeries4 Clinical Suite; Siemens Pharmacy; Siemens Med Administration Check; and Siemens Patient Identification Check.


ThinAir Data (Booth 341) is demonstrating the newest version of its TeleRIS software, offering greater connectivity to remote PACS/HIS/RIS, external and peer review quality assurance functions and enhanced speech and reporting tools.
