Hologic debuts the Explorer QDR Bone Densitometer
Hologic rolled out its new Explorer fan-beam bone densitometry system at the annual Journees Francaises de Radiologie (JFR) 2003 meeting in Paris, France.

Designed for entry-level osteoporosis testing, the system combines Hologic's OnePass fan beam technology and Internal Reference System with complete procedure automation.

Utilizing a design similar to computed tomography systems, the fan-bean densitometry technology uses a multi-detector array to produce a two-dimensional x-ray image that is acquired with only a single pass of the detector along the length of the patient. The system offers conventional spine, hip and whole body bone density measurements.

Commercial shipment of the Explorer is pending regulatory approvals, including the U.S. FDA.
