Hologic posts profit in first quarter of FY04
Buoyed by orders for its Selenia full-field digital mammography system, Hologic Inc. posted a profit in its first fiscal quarter, ending Dec. 27, 2003.

Revenues increased to $49.9 million, up 2 percent from $49 million in the first quarter of FY04. The company also posted net income of $1 million, compared with a net loss of $1.1 million in the year-ago quarter.

Hologic installed 27 Selenia systems in the quarter and reported that its backlog of orders for the digital mammography system stood at 74, as of Dec. 27, 2003. The backlog for all products increased to more than $57 million, a gain of 41 percent over the company's fourth fiscal quarter, ending Sept. 27, 2003.

Hologic Chairman and CEO Jack W. Cumming noted that the company "made further progress in expanding [its] suite of product offerings," including the addition of a software package for computer-aided detection (CAD) for MR imaging of the breast.
