House committee approves bill to supply EHRs for federal employees
The House Government Reform Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce and Agency Organization approved a bill (HR 4859) that would require that EHRs be made available for federal employees. The employees must be members of the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. The bill would require health insurers that administer the EHRs for members to adhere to HIPAA privacy standards. Insurers would also have to cover the costs of establishing them and require them to issue grants to physicians to help them implement the systems as well.
