IBM and EMC trade barbs in disk-storage battle
Which is the leading company in the disk-storage industry? Ask IBM and EMC and you can be sure to receive different answers.

IBM started a mini-brouhaha last week when it issued a news release saying that more than 100 EMC customers have jumped ship to IBM. EMC countered by asserting that 300 former IBM customers are now EMC clients.

EMC also cited the recent International Data Corp. (IDC) study that credited the company with a 21 percent share of the disk storage market and the No. 1 position.

IBM is sniping at EMC, offering its storage systems to entities that use older EMC technology. IBM says its equipment costs less and data transfer to the new systems can be done without going offline. Who gets the ultimate decision? The customer.
