Mi-Co, a mobile data capture software company, successfully demonstrated support for Motion Computing’s new C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) recently at HIMSS. The Motion C5, the first product in the MCA category, integrates durable design elements with key point-of-care data and image capture technologies to simplify workflows, ease clinician workloads and improve overall quality of care. Designed based on input from thousands of clinicians worldwide, the C5 brings reliable, automated patient data management directly to the point of care.
To demonstrate the capabilities of the new C5 device, Mi-Co built a form-based sample application using Mi-Forms. This application integrates Mi-Forms’ handwriting interpretation, Tablet PC forms development and Tablet PC forms runtime environments with the features of the C5: a barcode and RFID reader and a digital camera. This sample form is representative of the capabilities available to software companies developing ink-enabled interfaces for their enterprise applications.
NDS Surgical Imaging has expanded into surgery-related infection control markets by introducing new hospital grade disinfectants and barrier protection solutions to prevent Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs) and Surgical-Site Infections (SSI). OR-Cleanse and Steri-Wipe are the world’s fastest surface disinfectant products, designed for surgical and imaging equipment. They have a 50 second kill time and are 10 times faster than other products for other pathogens. Sterile-Touch screens provide barrier protection against microbial transmission derived from medical imaging equipment at the point-of-care.
The March issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine contains a study from the University of Pennsylvania which validates the Philips Medical Systems GEMINI TF PET/CT through an analysis of the system’s PET. The scanner is a fully 3D time-of-flight (TOF) PET scanner that incorporates high-performance PET scanner with TOF and non-TOF PET capabilities. In addition to its conventional imaging capabilities, the scanner has a timing resolution of about 600 ps, which allows its use as a routine TOF PET scanner with improved image quality. This improvement of image quality with TOF information offers a number of benefits, especially when scanning heavier patients. An abstract and link to the study is available here: http://jnm.snmjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/48/3/471
Positron Corporation has filed a patent on a device that is capable of detecting illicit radioactive sources at a distance. Radiation detection devices for Homeland Security must be able to detect potential nuclear threats at much lower dose levels than used in PET and in a much shorter time period, from as far as 100 meters away. The new stand-off radiation scanner (SORAC) incorporates state-of-the-art, solid-state photodetectors and was developed by Irving Weinberg M.D., Ph.D. and the Positron scientific team.
RamSoft Inc. announced it has introduced a new multi-tier reseller program for its RIS and PACS information management technologies. The company is inviting healthcare solution providers, imaging equipment manufacturers, networking IT companies, as well as sales professionals to capitalize on the growth of RamSoft’s market share. Authorized resellers will have the ability to instantly generate revenue streams, simply by recommending RamSoft solutions and services to their current and potential customer base. In exchange for direct referrals, the company will assume all customer relations, support and billing functions, so organizations can expand product offerings without additional technical support costs.
