American Medical Sales Inc. has completed installation of a PACS at The Orthopedic Specialty Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. This order was secured by AMS local PACS distributor, Simons X-Ray. The installation includes AMS’ MIDAS PACS Server components, connected to a network of over 20 diagnostic and clinical review workstations. In addition, the system connects locations in both Salt Lake City and Park City.
Actuality Systems received Display Application of the Year honors from the 2007 Society for Information Display (SID) Display of the Year Awards. The award was given to honor the company’s PerspectaRAD system, a high-resolution volumetric 3D display that is in pre-clinical studies for cancer treatment. It deliver high-resolution, real-time animated medical imagery to clinicians in true autostereoscopic 3D, without the use of goggles. PerspectaRAD is a combination of cancer treatment software, a volumetric 3D display, and a 3D haptic interface. The system it connects to existing Philips Medical radiation therapy workstations to give radiation oncologists improved tumor coverage with high accuracy.

Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation debuted four LifeBook notebooks powered by next-generation Intel Centrino Pro processor technology designed to improve the overall mobile computing experience. The LifeBook E8410 notebook, the flagship of the Fujitsu corporate desktop replacement portfolio, is equipped with Intel Centrino Pro processor technology, which offers enhanced security, system and wireless manageability for reduced total cost of ownership.
The LifeBook T4220 convertible Tablet PC, the LifeBook E8310 corporate notebook and the LifeBook A6030 mainstream notebook also offer the new Intel Centrino Pro processor technology. All four LifeBook notebooks, to be available in Q2 2007, also provide improvements in performance, graphics, wireless connectivity, and battery life.
iCRco Inc. said that Gold Mountain (Kum San) Medical System Co. Ltd. has signed as Distributor for iCRco's products in the Korean market. To start off, iCRco received an initial blanket order for their iCR1000 and 2600 machines.
Imaging Diagnostic Systems Inc. has upgraded the majority of international CTLM systems to the 4.1 Performance Package level, which includes several significant enhancements.
"When we launched our U.S. FDA pre-market approval data collection study, we announced that many improvements had been made to the CTLM system since the prior study in 2001. We wanted our global users to share in these improvements as well; recent shipments from our factory have routinely included the 4.1 package. Our plan has always been to upgrade the installed CTLM base as well," said Tim Hansen, chief executive officer. "We are now nearing completion of that field upgrade program, done entirely at IMDS expense…. The remaining upgrade sites include China and sites pending final installation.”
The 4.1 package enhancements include: new scan control software to reduce scan time from 12 to 9 minutes, increased patient throughput by 25 percent with additional patient comfort and reduced patient movement artifacts; CTLM self-diagnostic background software to monitor for potential faults and to log quality-assurance data for service purposes; upgraded software to simplify daily calibration routines; customer-driven changes to the image presentation displays to allow faster, more flexible viewing; and, specifically for the international installed base, operator interface software that enables simplified translation into non-English languages.
Naviscan PET Systems has completed a $15 million Series C round of financing. The financing was led by QuestMark Partners of Baltimore and joined by Sanderling Ventures, Mayo Medical Ventures and Walker Ventures, all previous investors in Naviscan.
Proceeds from the financing will be used to further clinically validate and commercialize the PEM Flex Solo II PET scanner, the company’s high resolution PET scanner. The company also plans to use the proceeds to continue development of other imaging and intervention technology, including proprietary imaging agents.
The company also announced that Michael Ward, a partner at QuestMark, will join its board of directors.
Richardson Electronics released its Image Systems FP1800MBNC medical imaging display, a monochrome 18-inch, analog LCD bridged the gap between original CRT monitors and current digital technology, as a replacement for OEM modality displays in fluoroscopy, CT and MRI.
The FP1800MBNC allows healthcare facilities to upgrade existing CRT-based modality displays with LCD panels. Most LCDs cannot handle the number and variety of video timings in the many legacy CRT monitors currently in use. Image Systems has pre-programmed the FP1800 with dozens of standard analog video timings for medical applications, enabling it to interface with the video signals of most current and legacy modality systems.
Image Systems’ engineers continue to add video timings to the FP1800MBNC every month, based on feedback from the field. Matching signals to legacy systems can also be custom programmed, based on the manufacturer, part number and/or system application.
The FP1800MBNC is distributed exclusively by Richardson Electronics.
Richardson also released a ScrollSeal Washable Mouse and the SpillSeal Protected Keyboard, to address the problem of bacterial cross-infection in medical environments where a disinfecting protocol is required.
These devices have the look and feel of normal peripherals, yet they can be fully washed under running tap water or immersed in antibacterial solutions for complete disinfection. In addition to being waterproof, the SpillSeal Protected Keyboard is also dustproof. The ScrollSeal Washable Mouse has smooth optical tracking and an ergonomic design. It features two standard buttons, with a scroll wheel conveniently located in the center. Every recess can be cleaned, including the scroll wheel (which can be easily removed and simply clipped back into place once clean).
Both the keyboard and mouse have been tested to IP66 and NEMA 4X Standards and can be utilized in Operating Rooms and other healthcare facilities. Each is available in a wired or wireless version, and feature compatibility with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.
SourceMedical signed a new contract for its SourceRad system to be installed at both Nueterra Healthcare LLC, a provider of development and management services to surgical facilities, and Regent Surgical Health, a developer and manager of surgery centers and physician-owned hospitals around the country. Each facility has signed master service agreements.
Nueterra Healthcare’s Surgical Institute of Reading, Pa., and Houston Physicians’ Hospital, Webster, Texas, will be the first of several facilities to go live with the systems, and will incorporate the company’s web-based RIS/PACS software and long-term archiving services.
Also, Regent Surgical Health will have SourceRad RIS installed at Medical Center at Elizabeth Place, a 26-bed, physician-owned hospital in Dayton, Ohio. They have also installed a web-based PACS to Sound Medical of Puyallup, Wash., already an existing SourceRad RIS user.
Vital Images had Q1 revenue 2007 of $20.8 million, a 32 percent increase over $15.8 million of revenue a year ago. Net income for the first quarter increased to $2.4 million. This compares to net income for Q1 2006 of $1.4 million.
