A-Life Medical, a provider of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for the healthcare industry, appointed Thomas D. Bang as president and chief executive officer. Bang has held executive level positions in prominent businesses throughout his 30-year career, including the Pyxis Corporation (Cardinal Health); MediTROL Automation Systems (Owen Healthcare); Baxter International and American Hospital Supply Corporation.
Eastman Kodak inked a new contract with Amerinet for laser imagers, laser media and radiographic film. Under the three-year deal, Amerinet—a leading group purchasing organization (GPO) that serves as purchasing agent for its member hospitals—will offer KODAK medical imaging products to its membership that includes hospitals, outpatient imaging centers and private physician offices. The agreement runs through December 30, 2009.
In other Kodak news, the company has recently signed contracts for its KODAK CARESTREAM Radiology and KODAK CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions at assorted U.S. healthcare facilities. Some facilities also purchased KODAK services to facilitate network design and perform data migration. The facilities include:
- Heartland Regional Medical Hospital (Marion, Ill.) ordered a KODAK CARESTREAM PACS and CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions;
- Madison County Memorial Hospital (Winterset, Iowa) ordered a KODAK CARESTREAM PACS and Kodak’s Network Design and Data Migration Services;
- Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies (Fort Collins, Colo.) ordered a KODAK CARESTREAM PACS;
- University of Illinois (Urbana, Ill.) ordered a KODAK CARESTREAM PACS, CARESTREAM Hosted Information Management and Kodak’s Data Migration services;
- Via Health Network (Wayne, N.Y.) ordered CARESTREAM RIS and CARESTREAM PACS, CARESTREAM Information Management Solutions and two KODAK DIRECTVIEW CR 975 Systems.
iCAD announced that Steven Rappaport, a partner with RZ Capital, LLC, and Dr. Lawrence Howard, general partner of Hudson Ventures, L.P. have been appointed to its Board of Directors. Since July 2002, Rappaport has been a partner of RZ Capital, LLC, a private investment firm. Since March 1997, Howard has been a general partner of Hudson Ventures, L.P. (formally known as Hudson Partners, L.P.) as well as a managing member of Hudson Management Associates LLC, a limited liability company that provides management services.
The eighth annual Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Connectathon is just around the corner. To be held in Chicago Jan. 15-19, 2007, the event will feature 75 leading healthcare IT companies testing how well their healthcare applications share patient information. Thomson Micromedex and A.D.A.M., a provider of consumer health information, announced today that the companies have formed an alliance to provide consumer-oriented health, drug, and lab information to hospitals, health plans, health web portals, and pharmaceutical companies.
