Mazor Surgical Technologies is showcasing a new system for precise placement of artificial discs at the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting (NASS) in Seattle. Mazor’s DiscAssist is designed to reduce the length and complexity of lumbar and thoracic disc replacement surgeries. Using DiscAssist, surgeons develop an extremely precise but simple 3D surgical blueprint that includes artificial disc sizing and precise disc placement, inclusive of alignment and orientation, the company says. To assist surgeons in optimizing the plan, DiscAssist calculates the center of disc rotation, simulates the effects of artificial disc placement on adjacent vertebrae, and evaluates other important parameters.

Philips Medical Systems and the Poudre Valley Health System (PVHS) announced a multi-year agreement to install diagnostic imaging equipment and a comprehensive healthcare informatics system throughout PVHS, which serves patients and families in northern Colorado, southern Wyoming, and western Nebraska.
