J&J veteran to advise Avista
Avista Capital Partners, a private equity firm, has appointed Patrick J. O'Neill, PhD, formerly of Johnson & Johnson (J&J), as a healthcare industry advisor.

O'Neill had a long career at J&J, which he joined in 1976 and from which he retired in 2006.  After holding research and development and new business development leadership positions in the pharmaceutical business at J&J, he moved to the medical devices and diagnostics group in 1989. Within this group, he held senior management positions in research and development and new business development in the surgical and interventional cardiology/radiology business units, and at the corporate level.

David Burgstahler, partner and head of healthcare at Avista, said that O’Neill’s experience in both the medical device and pharmaceutical sector make him an “invaluable addition” to the team to manage its portfolio of healthcare companies.

In January, the Houston-based Avista acquired Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging, gaining exclusive rights to Cardiolite. Avista changed the company’s name to Lantheus Medical Imaging in March.
