Our friends in the IT sector may not need to be so fearful about their jobs, according to a report released by outplacement consultant Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. For four consecutive quarters job cut totals have been at a level below what was seen in the previous year. For example, job cuts in Q1 of 2006 were 40 percent lower than what was seen in Q1 2005.
The tech sector encompasses anything from computers, electronics, telecommunications, and e-procurement. One area that has been empowered as of late has been storage system administration and IT security, the consultant firm said.
However, the tech market has been humming with mergers and acquisitions, which has been a major cause of tech sector job elimination recently and this continues to be the case. So, the IT job outlook may not be out of the woods just yet.
