KOM Networks awarded patent for accessing removable storage media
Provider of data preservation and information lifecycle management KOM Networks Inc. of Ottawa, Canada, this week announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company U.S. Patent # 6,370,545 entitled "method of accessing removable storage media."

Addressing the problems associated with the use of removable storage media, KOM Networks said the technology was developed to deliver an effective and consistent method for accessing removable storage medium.

Web-enabled and database powered applications and various healthcare and financial applications can now maintain a permanent path to data stored on removable media that will never change, said Kom Network. The technology enhances the security of access to information by providing a secure and invisible path utilizing native system application programming interface while prohibiting standard system tools from manipulating or identifying the data path.
